19In apropierea orasului Darvaz din Uzbekistan exista un crater imens ce arde fara oprire de 40 de ani.
Localnicii numesc acest loc „Poarta catre iad”.
Povestea lui incepe in anul 1971, cand un grup de geologi au forat in cautarea de zacaminte de gaz.
In timpul operatiunii, echipa de cercatatori a descoperit o imensa caverna subterana al carei strat superior a cedat, lasand loc unui crater.
Pestera era plina de gaze toxice, asa ca au aprins un foc ca sa arda gazele nocive si sa le impiedice sa iasa la suprafata. Geologii au sperat ca gazele se vor epuiza in cateva zile, insa de atunci focul a continuat sa arda fara intrerupere. Nimeni nu stie cate tone de gaze au fost pierdute in felul acesta, dar se pare ca zacamantul este urias.
