    Masurarea intensitatii vantului se poate face si fara instalarea de turnuri de masura a vantului. Folosind dispozitivul numit SODAR se poate monitoriza temporar, pentru 2-3 luni sau chiar mai putin timp, parametrii de vant. Acest dispozitiv este de forma unui mic container si functioneaza pe principiul unui radar. El este folosit aditional in locurile greu accesibile sau unde investitia intr-un turn permament de masura a vantului nu este oportuna.
