Situl istoric din desertul egiptean nu este o descoperire recenta a arheologilor, dar este pentru prima oara cand acestia l-au studiat in amanuntime.
Expertii de la Universitatea din Cardiff si cei din Egipt au examinat structura subterana, construita cu 2.500 de ani in urma, si au descoperit cateva nise in pereti care adaposteau mumiile celor 8 milioane de de caini, dar si pisici, si sacali care fusesera inmormantati aici.
„Aceste animale nu au facut parte neaparat dintr-un ritual de sacrificiu. Cainele, la vechii egipteni, era incarnarea zeului Anubis, iar sacrificarea sa era considerata, mai degraba, un act de pietate, animalul avand rolul de intermediar intre cei care aduceau ofranda si zeitate”, a spus doctorul Paul Nicholson, istoric la Universitatea din Cardiff.
