    In noua Strategie Energetică a României 2011 – 2035, printre direcţiile de acţiune se numără promovarea producerii energiei din surse regenerabile, astfel încât ponderea energiei electrice produse din aceste surse în totalul consumului brut de energie electrică să fie de 33% în anul 2010, 35% în anul 2015 şi 38% în anul 2020.

    Capacităţi noi instalate pe Surse Regenerabile de Energie (conform PNAER) se estimează să ajungă, până în anul 2035, la 5.515 MW, ceea ce înseamnă un necesar de investiţii de circa 9 miliarde euro, din care circa 7 miliarde euro până în 2020. Conform Strategiei, 4.440 MW vor fi reprezentaţi de energia eoliană. Se preconizează că se vor instala 2.640 MW în perioada 2011 – 2015, 800 MW (2016 – 2020), 500 MW (2021 – 2025), 300 MW (2026 – 2030) şi 200 MW (2031 – 2035).
