    Cererea crescuta de pe piata britanica a turbinelor eoliene a ajutat compania Vestas, cel mai mare producator de turbine la nivel mondial, sa obtina un profit cu 25% mai mare anul trecut fata de 2009 si sa isi imbunatateasca perspectivele de vanzari pe viitor, potrivit ziarului britanic „The Guardian”.

    Livrarile totale de turbine in Marea Britanie au atins 530 de MW in 2010, fata de 120 MW cu un an inainte, principala contributie fiind din partea echipamentelor furnizate pentru cel mai mare parc eolian offshore construit vreodata, Thanet.

    Concurentii de la Siemens si Gamesa au dezvaluit intentia de a construi fabrici de componente pentru turbine pe coasta de est a Marii Britanii, insa directorul Vestas a declarat ca firma inca nu se implica si asteapta sa vada ce va urma. La sfarsitul primaverii, Vestas va deschide un centru de cercetare si dezvoltare in domeniul turbinelor eoliene, dupa o investitie de 50 de milioane de lire sterline. De asemenea, compania ia in calcul si deschiderea unei noi fabrici. In 2009, Vestas a inchis singura mare fabrica de turbine din Marea Britanie, situatia in Cowes, in ciuda unor proteste din partea activistilor de mediu.
